"Our guiding principle is putting patients first,” says
Sheri Raymer, chief executive officer of Eagle
Physicians and Associates.
“We’re different
because we’re owned by doctors who live, work, and raise
their families right here in the Greensboro area. We’re
about neighbors taking care of neighbors.”
This line of thinking has been the backbone of
Eagle’s philosophy since it formed. It was back in 1995
when 33 doctors organized Eagle Physicians and
Associates in an effort to establish a
relationship-oriented health care partnership between
patients and physicians. Their goal was to find a way to
ensure that patients not only got well, but stayed
healthy. Today, more than 75 doctors and other health
care providers serve Eagle patients from the Piedmont
Triad in a dozen offices located throughout Greensboro.
This independent, physician-owned, multi-specialty
group practice offers a broad range of primary care
physicians and specialists. Eagle patients have access
to highly-qualified, board-certified doctors and the
most advanced technology, all delivered in a
cost-effective, patient-centered environment.
Raymer, a 25-year veteran of health care administration,
was recently named one of The Business Journal’s “Triad
10 to Watch.”
Eagle Physicians are dedicated to
providing care throughout all phases of a patient’s life
and fostering long-term relationships that endure. In
addition to Family Medicine, Internal Medicine and
Pediatrics, specialties include Obstetrics, Gynecology,
Gastroenterology, Endoscopy, Geriatrics, Rheumatology,
Endocrinology and Cardiology. Eagle also has an
After-Hours Walk-In Facility at its Guilford College
location.
The practice is unique in that the care
of the patient is shared. Eagle encompasses health care
specialties from general medicine to acute care to
inpatient care as part of the same team. In particular,
the Eagle Hospitalist program, located at the Moses Cone
Health System campuses, operates 24/7, and ensures that
if a patient is admitted to the hospital, an Eagle
specialist familiar with the medical history will be
there to help. For the convenience of its patients,
Eagle accepts most insurance carriers as well as new
patients enrolled in Partners Medicare Choice and United
Healthcare Medicare Complete. In addition, Eagle has
taken big steps to deliver Integrated Care for patients.
Despite the large number of physicians and variety of
locations, each specialty and office are tuned in to the
other parts of Eagle. The result is a continuum of care.

Once a patient enters the Eagle network, he can access a
variety of specialists who work together to provide the
best care possible. Physicians benefit as well from the
collaborative efforts. Younger doctors have the
advantage of the years of experience and expertise that
older providers can offer, and that is traditionally
found only in the larger medical centers.
According to family practitioner Dr. Vyvyan Sun, “It is
truly the best of both worlds for both the patient and
physician. Patients have primary physicians they are
comfortable with and trust, yet also have access to
highly respected and knowledgeable specialists. For
physicians, communication becomes more efficient and
interwoven.”
The implementation of Electronic
Medical Records (EMR) has also been particularly
beneficial to Eagle providers who are committed to
keeping pace with the changing face of technology and
health care and its integration.
Through EMR or
paperless records, physicians have access to all of a
patient’s records and treatment both from a primary care
standpoint as well as a specialty care standpoint,
resulting in the best continuity of care a patient can
receive.
Several Eagle physicians exemplify this
shared approach.
Dr. Traci Turner operates a
full-time cardiology practice. Board-certified in
cardiology and internal medicine, she is a graduate of
the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine
and has completed fellowships in cardiology and
electrophysiology from Wake Forest University. Away from
the office, she is a typical young mother, spending time
with her husband and two sons. Her special interests
include echocardiography, treatment of arrhythmias,
female cardiac health issues and treatment of sleep
apnea. Knowing that heart disease is an ever-increasing
health concern for women, she is especially committed to
helping her patients make healthy lifestyle choices and
supporting their efforts through patient education and
personal encouragement.

“I believe that patients need to be treated with the
utmost respect, in a compassionate and thorough way,”
she said.
“They deserve a provider who is
knowledgeable, confident, and willing to spend the time
to address their needs.”
Obstetrician/gynecologist Dr. Tara Cole’s offices are
located at the Wendover Medical Center. She attended
North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State
University and the Brody School of Medicine at East
Carolina University. She seeks to promote healthy
lifestyles for women who are pregnant as well as those
who are trying to become pregnant.
“Staying
healthy is the best way that expectant mothers, as well
as mothers of growing and even grown children, can help
their families. I welcome the opportunity to help busy
women of all ages to maintain their health.”
Dr.
April Gay is a pediatrician who works out of Eagle’s
Lake Jeanette office. She is a graduate of the Wake
Forest University School of Medicine.
“When I
think of Eagle, I think of the shared goals and single
vision of a well rounded excellent physician with a
caring nature and positive attitude who is committed to
the overall health of her patient. I am proud and
honored to work for a company with this kind of
commitment to patient care.”
Hospitalist Dr.
Corinna Sullivan treats patients admitted to Moses Cone
and Wesley Long Hospitals. Her specialty is internal
medicine. Previously a Hospitalist in the Chesapeake,
Virginia area, she chose Eagle for its patient-centered,
family atmosphere. As a busy mother of a toddler, she
appreciates her schedule flexibility, and Eagle’s
commitment to a family friendly workplace for its own
physician parents.
“Eagle is known for its
personal, caring approach to hospitalized patients.
Hospitals can be frightening. We help our hospitalized
patients make informed decisions,” she said.
“I
am there to listen and add a personal touch. I provide
hand-holding to patients and their families. I serve as
a friend and confidant, and I help our patients avoid a
lengthy Emergency Room wait if at all possible.”
Tarheel Dr. Sun is specially trained in Family Medicine
and received her education from The University of North
Carolina. She completed her residency at the Trident
Family Medical Program in Charleston through The Medical
University of South Carolina.
“I am truly a
health care partner,” said Dr. Sun. “I often tell my
patients that I see my job not as telling them what to
do or giving them the ‘right’ easy answer but instead
providing them with the information they need to try to
make the best choices for their health.”
By
providing a continuity of care from infants to the
elderly and the various stages of in-between, Eagle can
provide a vast array of specialty services to deliver
comprehensive care for most illnesses. This large group
of outstanding, compassionate physicians is committed to
its patients and to the Piedmont Triad.
