Recently,
I found myself at Rejuvenation MedSpa and Vein Clinic,
speaking with Dr. Umbreen Chaudhary and found myself
feeling very relieved at the experience. You see, about
five years ago I found myself in a completely different
situation. Prompted by unwanted hair and fine lines, I
made my way to a “medspa.” After the initial credit
check, I was ushered back to speak with a sales
associate about the procedures in which I was most
interested. The main focus was, of course, cost. It
wasn’t until I had already signed on the dotted line and
was in the actual treatment room that I spoke with a
medical professional. That conversation consisted of a
simple introduction, and then we began. Therefore, it
shouldn’t be too surprising to know that I was not
pleased with the results, nor was I pleased with the
fact that I never once saw the same person when I came
back for the remaining five treatments in my “package.”
My relief at Rejuvenation MedSpa and Vein Clinic
stemmed from the fact that there was no sales pitch and
no forced package deals; instead Dr. Chaudhary and I
discussed my medical history, my needs and my
expectations. She explained to me that she performed the
majority of the procedures herself, specifically the
ones I was inquiring about: injectables (i.e. Botox),
fillers, chemical peels and laser treatments.
The
next step was to come up with a treatment plan,
specifically designed for me. “These procedures are not
done the same way, universally,” she explained as she
studied my face. “The idea is to make subtle changes for
an optimal effect,” she continued, to which I stated,
“But I want to look like myself.” She laughed and went
on to reassure me that that was her plan. Like me, she
was well aware of the negativity surrounding certain
injectables. I have a very expressive face and I still
wanted to be able to raise an eyebrow when certain
brow-raising situations arise. Dr. Chaudhary reassured
me by explaining how she would layer treatments and use
the injectables or fillers to “sculpt” the face.
“I
have to know where to inject and what muscle,” she told
me describing in reasonable and very understandable
details the little tricks she would use to achieve the
results we had discussed. This is where her medical
background gave her the advantage because she had that
knowledge. Then combine that with the training she had
received from the manufacturers of these different
treatments and I couldn’t help but feel that I was in
very capable hands.
In the course of this initial
consultation, Dr. Chaudhary and I discussed my
expectations and I learned how important it was to keep
them reasonable. She was very up front and honest with
me and explained that many of the treatments I was to
undergo were preventive, and that to maintain the
results that I would need to take good care of my skin.
Later, I learned that Dr. Chaudhary herself had
actually undergone nearly all of the treatments she
administers. I have to admit that I liked knowing that.
I also couldn’t help but to like the fact that I was
under the care of a woman. She told me that she heard
that often from her patients. “When you’re seeing a
woman you know that she can identify with the emotion
and reason,” and that seemed to be very true with her.
“Things that motivate my patients, motivate me,” Dr.
Chaudhary noted.
Dr. Chaudhary is board certified
in both Internal Medicine and Geriatrics. She always had
conducted her practice with a high degree of
professionalism and understanding. Part of her
philosophy was to provide her patients with accurate
information about their treatments and to present it in
a way that they could understand. Perhaps this is what
led them to prompt her to begin offering certain
non-surgical cosmetic procedures. She began with laser
hair removal and quickly expanded to include more
services to where now 90% of her clients come to her for
non-surgical procedures. All of those that Rejuvenation
MedSpa and Vein Clinic offer have been thoroughly tested
and researched. Dr. Chaudhary says, “I want it (the
treatment) to have a solid medical reason behind it.
Today,
in addition to fillers, injectables and laser
procedures, Rejuvenation offers acne treatments, skin
resurfacing, Thermage, chemical peels, treatments using
ILP (Intense Light Pulse) and more. Another treatment
that Rejuvenation offers is hormone replacement therapy
using bioidentical hormones. This process, made popular
recently by Oprah and Suzanne Sommers, enables doctors
to determine which specific hormones that a woman
(typically menopausal or post-menopausal) is missing and
work to replace them with hormones that are molecularly
identical. Also, as part of helping the patient to
maintain the results, Chaudhary and her team give weight
loss, skin care and make-up consultations. Both centers
provide patients with a high degree of confidentiality.
There are separate entrances, separate check-out desks
and then, of course, there is the flexibility of using
the facility that is not in your town (i.e. Greensboro
resident going to Asheboro and vice versa) just in case
you want to take it to that level.
Then, there is
the Vein Clinic part of Rejuvenation. There they
specialize in the treatment of varicose veins. Patients
who suffer from the pain and swelling caused by varicose
veins can come to the clinic and undergo endovenous
laser therapy. This in-office procedure is conducted by
a surgeon and an interventional radiologist. In most
cases, the procedure lasts about an hour, involves only
the need to anesthetize the treated leg and is typically
covered under most insurance plans.
Many times,
consultations with Dr. Chaudhary do not include the
procedure. Instead, she asks patients to go home and to
think about things before making a final decision. There
was no pressure, and while I felt pretty confident about
going forward I still went home, and thought about it.
Of course, I made the phone call a few days later to
schedule my first treatment. In all, it was such a
different experience than before, and I look forward to
seeing the changes take place. Plus, when a co-worker
asks, “Alice, where are you going?” I like being able to
say, “To the doctor’s,” because, well, that is honestly,
where I’m going: to see the doctor.
